Ok, I’m going to be honest here and admit that I’ve fallen behind with the updates. My drafts folder is full of half written posts about the adventure but I’ve had a little break from writing to work on some personal issues and enjoy being disconnected from things.
As for right now? I’m the Hamptons, East Hampton actually. We are staying in a quintessential Hamptons home right on the beach. My in-laws are visiting from Sydney and having not seen them for 6 months, we decided to have our family reunion somewhere special.
It’s fall here which means the mornings are warm in the sun, afternoons are chilly in the shade and nights are downright freezing. Yesterday it was so cold, you couldn’t spend more than a few minutes out in the windy, salty air.
We have visited South Hampton, which is the epicentre of Hamptons lifestyle and culture. Also Sag Harbour was a gorgeous little town which we visited as we caught the punt ferries from Connecticut. I hope to make it up to Montauk at some stage to see the famous lighthouse at the end of Long Island. You might have seen it here in one of my favourite films ‘Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind‘ starring Kate Winslet and Jim Carrey.
The spectacular Cooper’s Beach in South Hampton – voted the #1 beach in the USA
In a few days, we head west for New York City. Our 7 week stay will be spread over 3 locations including Midtown, Lower East Side / Two Bridges and then a few weeks in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. My calendar is filling up with tickets booked to see the Knicks, Rangers, Damien Rice, Justin Timberlake, Interpol and more. If you have any tips or favourite NYC haunts, please send them my way. Even though I have visited New York many times, you can never see the entire city and all that it has to offer. I am looking forward to the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, watching the Christmas Tree lighting at the Rockefeller Centre, ice skating in Central Park, eating those infamous slices of pizza, and hopefully sharing a few date nights with James too.
