Gratitude, The Adventure

For our extended stay in New York City, we decided to bring on a nanny to make sure everyone in the family would get the most from our time in the big apple. James and I had tickets booked to shows, to see the NY Rangers, and most of all, eagerly anticipated trying out some of New York’s better restaurants.

Enter Carrie, a born and bred local New York girl originally hailing from Long Island  but residing in Brooklyn. Carrie impressed James and I during our skype interview, she ultimately had the best knowledge of the city and would be able to keep the kids entertained with the click of her fingers. We agreed on a 3 day per week schedule with some nighttime babysitting too.

Meet Carrie!

When she arrived on her first night of babysitting duties, she walked in with such charisma and happiness that kids were drawn to her immediately, especially Teddy. They loved her local accent, sweet disposition and colourful tattoos. The next day on her first full rostered day on, she took the older kids to a bowling alley on our block and grabbed some pizza too. And from there, smooth sailing and happy days.

With the November/December weather being so unpredictable and brutally cold too, Carrie was well prepared for plenty of indoor time and the kids began to put on concerts to entertain themselves as well as playing “schools, doctors, and travelling” too. Most times when James and I snuck out quietly, my trio of babes waved goodbye and would be cuddling and climbing all over Carrie.

Teddy still talks about his love for Carrie!

During our brief 2 night stay in Brooklyn, she showed us around her neighbourhood and introduced us to our first taste of real southern food at “Pies and Thighs”. James had the milk dunked chicken breast with biscuits, and yes, he absolutely loved it!

Saying goodbye to Carrie was especially hard for Ted who had grown very fond of her. He still talks about her and cannot wait for her to come to Sydney one day, so he can take her to the beach. The girls loved her cuddles, baking skills and tattoos too!

After we left the city, we sent Carrie a personalised Muppet from FAO Schwarz, one the most iconic stores in New York. Here she is with her adorable new friend!

Carrie, we love you and cannot wait to see you again soon!

Until next time,
