After 2 amazing weeks in Plaka, we drove west for 3 hours winding around mountains and zooming past the ocean until we reached our amazing villa in Kalathas, outside the large town of Chania.
I booked this villa at the last minute and our host Evaggelia was one of the most amazing hosts you could ever ask for. She welcomed us with loving arms and was unbelievably warm, honest and friendly to the family. The kids jaws dropped when we entered her home.
Villa Dimi is a 4 bedroom home split over separate levels with many different spaces outdoor to maximise time in the gorgeous greek sunshine.
Several staff maintain the villa, quietly making appearances throughout the day in a non-obtrusive way. Evaggelia owns a homewares store downtown in Chania and we paid her a visit one morning. Everything in store was amazing, and I could have spent the entire trip budget on several amazing pieces she sold.
Back to the house, within a 10 minute drive we had several hypermarkets to shop at. The house and surrounds were too beautiful to tear us away from, so we decided to spend most of our time in the villa.
Days were so hot that we enjoyed most of our time in the pool. Pool floats, loungers, fresh fruit, everything was always prepared for us that we felt beyond spoilt. Abi learnt to swim laps underwater and Harriet enjoyed the warm baby pool attached to the main infinity pool.
Personally, I was going through a really rough patch during our stay here. I lost days in a dark fog, lying by the pool, watching my family swimming and laughing. I was completely numb and really struggling. If I wasn’t by the pool, I was in bed with huge bouts of depressive thoughts, self loathing and guilt. About what exactly? Some issues from back home that have been plaguing me for months. I think I reached a turning point after a big confession with James and he supported me through it.
Poor Marlee was hit with news of a death in her family back home and had to make immediate arrangements of travel to Sydney for the funeral. She was obviously distraught and I think it helped me to comfort her. It helped me reconsider my own issues and instead, support her through such a sad time.
One afternoon, James ordered Eva’s masseuse to come to the villa and treat us all with body massages. It was amazing. The breeze was blowing, the ocean was talking in the distance, all 3 of us floated to dinner that night.
I could not have asked for better holiday accommodation in Greece. Little creature comforts that had been absent for so long, like luxurious beds, high end appliances in the kitchen, topped with friendly people around us like her gorgeous housekeeper, masseuse and landscaper.
The kids enjoyed this gorgeous bedroom overlooking a koi pond and the backyard.
Marlee’s room next door to the kids. She loved her space here.
